Oh what does a grown woman do when she gets hooked on a series with Norse Gods and Goddesses that were only meant to bide her time while waiting in Doctor's offices every day for her sick mother. I never thought I'd get emotionally invested in such a saga and such characters. You don't have to be a teenager or a twenty something to enjoy this story line. The drama, action and love in the story are beautifully written and not over done at all. S.T. Bende has a way of teasing on every page so that you keep reading on to find out what happens next. I'm not really a romantic at all and tend to cringe at romance novels or romantic chick flicks but I some how found myself getting suckered int to loving the love story in this series. I'm still not a romantic but I've found an exception. ;) Great read for anyone any age in my opinion. I'm a huge fan of Bende's work and now I've got to read all of her books. ;)

It's official, I'm obsessed. This series is phenomenal, and I desperately need the next book, Tro right now. Literally, right now...I don't even know where to begin with this review because honestly, I loved ever single word of this book. Ms. Bende has written an amazing story that takes you on an extraordinary adventure. One of love, Norse mythology, and evil plots. What's better than that? The answer to this question is nothing. Ms. Bende's writing takes you to another place. I truly felt as if I was watching the scenes play out in front of me. The descriptions and the characters are absolutely wonderful, and the setting is even more wondrous. Her writing is lyrical, and she is truly a gifted author. She is definitely one to watch. One of my most favorite aspects of this novel (and this series in general) is the characters. Not only are they relatable, but all the characters are extremely realistic...well as realistic as you can be when several of those characters are gods. Kristia is one of the strongest, bravest main characters I know, and she is truly admirable. She sticks to her guns and never gives up. Kristia knows exactly what she wants, and she is determined to do whatever she needs in order for those goals to be accomplished. Her love for Ull knows no bounds, and those two are just adorable. Kristia is willing to do anything and everything to be with him, however she never loses herself. In fact, she becomes even stronger. We learn even more about her powers, and slowly she is coming to accept what is in store for her with this new power. I loved every part that explored her Seer powers, and I know that we are going to be treated to even more in the next book. I am extremely eager to see what happens and how she handles everything thrown her way! Ull, that man has my heart, and I want him in real life. He is romantic, an absolute sweetheart, protective, and makes your heart flutter. Ull is seriously swoonworthy and turns up the heat in this book. You can definitely tell the romance between Ull and Krisita is going to be turned way up in the next book especially when they go on their honeymoon ;)Often the side characters get thrown away in a book. They never make an appearance more than a couple pages throughout the entire book. Sure they're mentioned, but you never really see any interaction between the main characters and the side characters. Well this does not happen in this book, and it is extremely refreshing. This just proves even more what a great author S.T. Bende is, because she knows the perfect ways to incorporate those side characters. And they are just as amazing as the main characters. There are many many scenes I could talk about that just blew me away, but one of the best scenes in this book was at the end. The wedding was gorgeous. I felt like I was right there with Kristia and Ull, and you could feel the love between the two flowing off the page. You will have tears in your eyes, and will have to suppress your "AWWWWWs!" (Even if you let it out, I'm not going to judge you because the whole ceremony was beautiful). I could picture every minute detail, and I have this image of Kristia's dress in my mind... and I officially want to have it for my wedding. This novel is a must read for fans of the Elsker Saga, as you won't be disappointed. While Ms. Bende will leave you longing for the next book, you will definitely be satisfied with how this book turns out. More times than I would like to admit, the second book experiences SBS (second book syndrome). This is a terrible affliction for books because they are boring and dull. The story drags, and you are left wondering whether or not to continue on with the series. Well, have no fears with Endre; this book does not experience any SBS and will sweep you off your feet. You will want to re-read it as soon as you're done reading. I highly recommend this book, and can't wait to see what happens next! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to try to make Ull's favorite waffles because you never know when a Norse god might come a knockin'. Happy reading :)

I loved the first book of the series. I was exciting, interesting (although the initial premise did feel a little like Twilight in a norse-legend kind of way). However, this second book in the series feels like fluff. It's all about the romance and dates and not much more. There are three highlights in the book; they are the meeting with Ull's step-father and how Kristia approaches that, "Elfie" the antagonist and his constant harassment, and maybe the conversion/wedding. The whole thing moved along so slowly and really had little bearing on anything norse related or the myths and legends. It really felt like something out of a Harlequin romance novel than a gritty Ragnarock-impending, Asgardian inspired novel.I also wish the author would quit with the incessant detail about Ull's looks and Kristia's obsession with them...we get it; he's a God, he's perfect...it just feels like the author is more in love with him than Kristia or the rest of the story.Could be so much better. Hope book 3 is as good as the first or I'll be asking for a refund.

"I'm marrying my best friend today."After reading Elsker, I was desperate for more of Ull and Kristia and Endre did not let me down. There was humour, danger, more heart-stopping moments with Ull and a beautiful wedding you'll never forget. Just make sure you have a box of tissues nearby for the happy tears!Endre (Norwegian for 'change') turned out to be an incredibly apt title for this book. Kristia is about to make the transition from mortal woman to Goddess of Winter and she's coming to understand exactly what that means for her. You won't believe what her preparation for immortality involves and for the record, I'm very glad I wasn't in her shoes. It's time for her to say 'I do' to Ull but before that happens, they have a few concerns to deal with... mainly his over-protectiveness. The others? Skadi (once Ull's intended) shows up in Cardiff in a last ditch attempt to win over her man and a mysterious enemy (Loki?) continues to threaten Kristia in her dreams. You didn't expect them to have an easy journey to the altar, did you?If you haven't read Elsker yet, go do yourself a favour and check it out. This series is absolute perfection and it's not often that I give a piece of my heart away.

The follow-up to Elsker did not disappoint! I loved seeing how Kristia and Ull overcame all the obstacles that continued to get in their way, leading up to the impending Ragnarok. There were great plot twists and turns, and awesome goddess lessons. I enjoyed reading more about their epic love and getting to know Ull's family (I by far loved Sif and Olaug!) The process leading up to/what has to happen before their wedding are fabulously written. I couldn't stop reading this, even going so far as to read it at the gym on the treadmill haha.I recommend this book, can't wait to read Book 3!

Sharpe's Triumph: Richard Sharpe and the Battle of Assaye, September 1803 (Richard Sharpe's Adventure Series #2)By Bernard Cornwell

"The greatest writer of historical adventures today."
—Washington Post

Critically acclaimed, perennial New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell (Agincourt, The Fort, the Saxon Tales) makes real history come alive in his breathtaking historical fiction. Praised as "the direct heir to Patrick O'Brian" (Agincourt, The Fort), Cornwell has brilliantly captured the fury, chaos, and excitement of battle as few writers have ever done—perhaps most vividly in his phenomenally popular novels following the illustrious military career of British Army officer Richard Sharpe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In Sharpe's Triumph, Sharpe's hunt for a traitorous renegade British officer leads the courageous young sergeant straight into the fires and madness of India's Battle of Assaye in September 1803. Perhaps the San Francisco Chronicle said it best: "If only all history lessons could be as vibrant."

From Publishers Weekly
Followers of Cornwell's series featuring the exploits of British infantry officer Richard Sharpe (Sharpe's Rifles, et al.) in the Napoleonic wars (adapted for Masterpiece Theater) and in his earlier career in colonial India will relish this look at Sergeant Sharpe on the subcontinent in 1803. A fluke makes our hero unofficial aide to General Sir Arthur Wellesley (the future Duke of Wellington, though it's never mentioned in the novel) at the time of the siege of Ahmednuggur and Wellesley's brilliant victory at Assaye against the Indian Mahratta Confederation and the turncoat forces of ex-English officer William Dodd. This was the beginning of the end of the Mahratta rebellion against the British and a turning point in the Raj's growing power. Among the book's rich cast of characters are Hakeswill, a murderous British sergeant determined to kill Sharpe; Simone Joubert, the needy wife of a French officer; and the colorful Hanoverian mercenary, Colonel Pohlmann, who leads the Mahratta forces from atop an elephant. Most roundly dimensional and representing the extremes of British society are Wellesley, the coldly brilliant and fearless son of an earl, and Sharpe himself, the tortured, unlettered bastard from London's slums, who is determined to rise. Cornwell contributes vivid details in desciptions of life in an army camp, the dual military regimes of the East India Company and the regular army, and Indian politics. Best are the battle scenes, laid out clearlyAthere's a handy mapAwith all the heat, stink and blood of war and "the joys of slaughter." The reader's pleasure in all this gore may be a guilty one, but Cornwell, a master of battlefield writing, makes it too exhilarating to forgo. 15-city NPR feature; 3-city author tour.

From Library Journal
William Gaminara does an excellent job in his presentation of this 14th volume of Cornwell's Sharpe series. Triumph covers Sergeant Sharpe's service with the British Army in India, before the Peninsular War and Waterloo. The story begins with a treacherous attack by Maj. William Dodd, a British officer who has defected from the East India Company. Surviving the massacre, Sharpe vows to take revenge, a vow that leads him to serve with Gen. Arthur Wellesley and to take the field when Wellesley leads an impossibly small force of 5000 men against the 50,000 of the Maratha Army quartered at Assaye. Cornwell's (The Winter King, Audio Reviews, LJ 8/97) depiction of the events that occurred before and during the 1803 battle at Assaye is vivid and historically accurate. Sure to be popular with Sharpe fans and a good read for people interested in British or military history; highly recommended.ATheresa Connors, Arkansas Tech. Univ., Russellville

From Booklist
Cornwell continues to luxuriate in the details of battle in his continuing series of novels following the exploits of British soldier-adventurer Sergeant Richard Sharpe. In this latest Sharpe novel, Cornwell leaves aside the Napoleonic wars in Europe to concentrate on the rich terrain of colonial India. The story starts with a tense situation. The time is 1803, and a league of native Indian princes called the Mahratta Confederation is determined to resist British encroachment into its territories. A large quantity of ammunition has been stolen from the East India Company, and the Mahrattas are poised to pay top price for the stolen goods for use in their British resistance. The ammo has been recaptured, and it is Sharpe's job to see that it is safely returned to where it belongs. A renegade British major allied to the Mahratta princes attacks the fort where the ammo has been taken, massacres everyone (except for Sharpe, who fakes death), and runs off with the highly negotiable commodity. Now Sharpe is ordered to hunt down this rogue, and the road ultimately leads to involvement in a major battle, authentically, even gracefully, reconstructed here with the electric prose Cornwell is known for. Eminently successful historical fiction. Brad Hooper
